Great British Holidays and UK caravan insurance comparisons – what is the connection?

Enjoying a Summer break caravanning in the UK and caravan insurance may not seem to have any connection at all. However, they do and by the end of this article you will hopefully know why!

But first of all, let’s talk about holidaying in the UK.

Great Britain has truly so many wonderful places to see, whether you like the rugged coasts, gorgeous mountains or rivers. The trouble is, with our somewhat unpredictable weather, many of us head off overseas in order to guarantee a bit of sunshine, which is shame really, when Great Britain has some many hidden gems.

Of course, if you are a caravanner, while the weather is of course still important, with your own mobile home being towed behind you, in terms of clothing at least, you can plan a bit better for wind, rain and unseasonal cold!

Being able to move around and truly experience parts of the UK you would not normally explore means that even if the weather isn’t that great, you can still have a wonderful holiday, enjoying new sights and sounds.

That is, as long as you don’t run in to problems with your caravan. Should it be involved in a serious accident or it breaks down en route, will your caravan insurance provide for alternative accommodation? Will it pay for towing costs etc, if need be?

These are the sorts of things you need to think about to make sure that your caravan holiday goes without a hitch.

To make sure you have the most suitable caravan cover, carrying out several caravan insurance comparisons before you go on holiday may make sense.

You may also find that by switching insurers, you could be paying less for your insurance and / or getting more attractive policy features and benefits. Comparing caravan insurance policies may help give a swift education in the different types of cover on offer – as well as the type of costs involved.

So, what do you need to think about when carrying out caravan insurance comparisons, apart from the pointers raised above?

• does a policy impose certain conditions relating to steps that you are required to take to help protect your caravan? If you have a tourer, for example, you may have to use a wheel clamp if your caravan is unattended and attached to the towing vehicle. Unhitch it from the car though and you may have to fit a hitchlock too;

• does your policy offer discounts if you are the member of a recognised caravan club or if you are tourer owner, by fitting a tracking device;

• what is the insurer’s stance on replacing a damaged caravan? You may find that some policies may offer you a new for old replacement of your caravan if it is up to three years old, while others may not. What's more, with some caravan cover providers, if you have been the sole owner from new, then your caravan may be up to five years old and still qualify for new for old replacement.

Basically, the key to carrying out successful caravan insurance comparisons isn’t just about focusing solely on the price – but how the cover provided is most suited to your requirements. Once you have got that right, you can enjoy your touring holiday, knowing that you are adequately protected.
